How to Choose the Right Igloo

For Couples

Most igloos are designed for two. Look for hotels with private sauna or jacuzzi for a truly romantic stay. Levi and Saariselka in Finland consistently top guest reviews for romantic atmosphere.

For Families

Filter by "Fits families" above - these hotels offer larger igloos or connecting cabins for 3 or more guests. Kakslauttanen and Wilderness Hotel Muotka are the most family-friendly options in Finland.

On a Budget

Budget options start from around €129 per night in Iceland and €150 in Finland. Shoulder season - September, October and March - gives you aurora darkness at 30% to 50% lower prices than peak winter.

When to Book

Christmas and New Year weeks sell out 6 to 12 months in advance. For January and February book at least 3 months ahead. September and October are the most flexible - availability is usually good up to a few weeks before.

Best for Aurora

The further north, the better. Hotels above 68 degrees north - Saariselka, Inari, Tromso area - have the highest aurora frequency. All glass igloos offer an Aurora Alarm service so staff wake you when the lights appear.

Finland vs Norway

Finland offers more choice, better value and easier access with direct flights to Rovaniemi and Ivalo. Norway has more dramatic scenery and fewer crowds. Iceland is great if you want to combine an igloo stay with other sightseeing.
